Corset Sizing & Fit Guide

Getting the right Leatherotics corset size can feel confusing at first — and that’s completely normal. Corsets don’t fit like regular clothing, so if you’ve never worn one before, it’s easy to overthink it.

The good news is, once you understand the basics, it’s actually quite straightforward. The simple rule for majority is to measure your waist line at the narrowest point and go for 2" to 4" (8cm to 10cm) smaller size than your natural waist. If you measure 30" on tape measure then select and order 26" corset.

How Corset Sizing Works

Corsets are sized differently from standard clothing. Instead of going by dress size, they’re usually based on your natural waist measurement.

A typical corset is designed to be worn slightly smaller than your natural waist, creating that structured, shaped look. How much smaller depends on your experience and comfort level.

If you’re new to corsets (real corsets or PU corsets), it’s always better to start with a more comfortable reduction rather than going too tight straight away.

How to Measure Yourself Properly

Before choosing a corset, you’ll need three key measurements:

1. Waist

Measure around the narrowest part of your waist — usually just above your belly button. Keep the tape snug, but don’t pull it tight.

2. Underbust

Measure directly under your bust. This helps ensure the corset sits properly without digging in.

3. Hips

Measure around the fullest part of your hips. This is important for longer corsets so they don’t feel restrictive lower down.

Choosing the Right Size

As a general guide:

  • If your natural waist is 28”, a corset around 24–26” is usually a good starting point
  • If you’re new, stay closer to a 2–4 inch reduction
  • More experienced wearers may go further, depending on comfort

Don’t worry if you don’t land on an exact number — bodies aren’t uniform, and corsets are adjustable.

What a Good Fit Should Feel Like

A properly fitted corset should feel snug and supportive, not painful.

You should still be able to:

  • breathe comfortably
  • move naturally
  • wear it for a reasonable amount of time

If it feels too tight straight away, or you’re struggling to fasten it, it’s likely too small.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Choosing a size too small too quickly
  • Relying only on dress size instead of measurements
  • Expecting it to fit like stretch clothing
  • Not allowing time to adjust to wearing a corset

Taking a bit of extra time here makes a big difference.

If You’re Between Sizes

If you’re unsure or between sizes, it’s usually better to go slightly larger — especially if you’re new to corsets.

A corset can always be adjusted tighter over time, but one that’s too small is much harder to work with.

A Quick Note on Comfort

Corsets are designed to shape and support, but they shouldn’t feel extreme or uncomfortable when worn properly.

Most people find that once they get used to the fit, it feels natural — but that comes from choosing the right size to begin with.

Still Unsure?

If you’re not completely sure which size to go for, it’s always worth double-checking your measurements or getting advice before ordering.

Getting the right fit from the start makes everything easier — both in how it feels and how it looks.

Made-to-Measure Corsets

While standard sizes work well for many people, they won’t suit every body shape perfectly. If you’re petite, taller than average, or have fuller proportions, you might find that off-the-shelf sizing doesn’t give you the fit you’re looking for.

That’s where made-to-measure corsets come in.

A custom corset is designed around your exact measurements, so it sits properly at the waist, underbust, and hips without awkward gaps or pressure points. The result is a cleaner fit, better support, and a more natural shape overall.

We usually recommend made-to-measure if you:

  • Struggle to find the right fit in standard sizes
  • Are in between sizes
  • Have a longer or shorter torso
  • Are petite or plus size or Bigger bust or Larger cup size
  • Want something tailored closely to your body shape

It’s also a good option if you’re planning to wear your corset regularly and want something that feels more comfortable over time.

A well-fitted corset should work with your body, not against it — and going custom is often the easiest way to achieve that.
